Meagan moved to the UK from Australia and worked in the criminal justice sector before returning to study and completing a BA (Hons) in Sociology and then an MA(Econ). She moved into the healthcare regulatory sector working for the General Medical Council and then the Healthcare Commission leading a team responsible for prison and high secure hospital complaints. After a brief period investigating deaths in custody for the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman Meagan joined the ICO in 2009 and is the Group Manager for the Police Justice and Borders Team. Meagan’s team are responsible for providing advice, engaging with and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders across the policing and criminal justice sector on issues ranging from data sharing to surveillance and privacy.  Meagan sits on the National DNA Strategy Board, the National ANPR User Group and regularly meets with SIROs across police forces and government.

  • Using Big Data to predict the locations of future crimes in order to move effectively and deploy resources to prevent them
  • Promoting an organisational culture and workforce that will work effectively under accurately accumulated and analysed data
  • Outlining the impact of the Data Protection Bill and GDPR within the Justice and Crime Sector
