Sophie Baker:  Sophie has worked in Criminal Justice for 22 years.  She was a Criminal Defence Solicitor, a Crown Advocate for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Criminal Justice Manager for the Devon and Cornwall Police.  She currently works for the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) – Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  Within this role Sophie has scoped, led, managed and implemented innovative projects with stakeholders to bring about system improvement in the Criminal Justice System.  Sophie will be discussing one of the pilots the OPCC have implemented at HMP Exeter – “the Checkout and Departure lounge”.  This pilot was implemented to help prisoners with the transition between custody and community, with 90% of prisoners advising this has increased their confidence that they will stay out of prison when released, describing the service as “invaluable” and a “life saver”.
