Alex Bowen is an independent consultant assisting the National Enabling Programmes with its delivery.
Prior to joining the NEP, Alex had worked for Devon & Cornwall Police for nearly 15 years in various differing roles from working within the force control room, to High Tech Crime and then several different roles within the ICT department. Alex also spent 11 years as a special constable attaining the role of Deputy Chief Officer, overseeing over 600 volunteer police officers.
Within his time within the ICT Department, Alex led on the technical joining of the Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police ICT networks ahead of the two departments full amalgamation. Alex also led the two forces on their journey to adopting Office 365 as part of the advanced work being undertaken prior to the formation of the NEP.
In his last role as Chief Technology Officer, Alex led the 200 strong ICT department and personally oversaw the technology response the 2018 attempt to formally merge the two Police forces.
Alex personally feels that being involved in Police ICT is like no other role, the breadth of what policing is involved with means that the ICT service has to be everything to everyone which presents some very exciting opportunities and challenges.
